Caring for you and your loved ones

The Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society’s Rotary Hospice House provides compassionate care to individuals facing life-limiting illnesses. Our ten-bed facility offers a comfortable environment for Guests and their families, ensuring support during challenging times.

Admission Criteria:

To be eligible for admission to the Rotary Hospice House, individuals must meet the following criteria:

  • Age Requirement: Applicants must be 19 years of age or older.
  • Palliative Performance Scale (PPS) Score of 40% or Less: The PPS assesses a patient’s functional status. A score of 40% indicates that the individual is mainly confined to bed, requires extensive assistance for self-care, and may experience reduced intake with full or drowsy consciousness.
  • Life Expectancy of Less Than Three Months: A prognosis of fewer than three months, as determined by a physician, aligns with the eligibility criteria for hospice care.
  • Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) Order: A signed DNR order is required, reflecting the patient’s wishes to forgo cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the event of cardiac or respiratory arrest.

For Home Hospice

Above criteria plus:

  • Must have a caregiver/care-partner in the home
  • Must live within city limits

Reasons for Admission:

The Rotary Hospice House provides specialized care tailored to the unique needs of each individual. Admission may be sought for various reasons, including:

  • End-of-Life Care: Offering support to ensure comfort and dignity during the final stages of life.
  • Respite Care: Providing temporary relief for primary caregivers, allowing them to rest while ensuring their loved ones receive professional care in a supportive environment.
  • Symptom Management: Addressing complex symptoms such as pain, nausea, or breathlessness that are challenging to manage at home, thereby enhancing the patient’s quality of life

Referral Process:

Initiating a referral to the Rotary Hospice House is a collaborative effort involving healthcare professionals, patients, and families:

  • Healthcare Professionals: Physicians, nurses, or social workers involved in the patient’s care can recommend hospice services when curative treatments are no longer effective or desired.
  • Self-Referrals or Family Referrals: Patients or their family members can directly contact the hospice facility to inquire about services and begin the admission process.

Choosing hospice care is a significant decision, reflecting a commitment to quality of life and dignity in one’s final months. The Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society is here to support patients and their families through this journey, honoring traditional values of care and compassion while adapting to the evolving needs of our community.
