Volunteer Opportunities at Prince George Hospice

There are countless ways to volunteer with Hospice. We have opportunities that involve working directly with our guests and families to helping set up an event and sell tickets.

COVID-19 Vaccination is required for all Volunteers

Direct

Prerequisite: completed application, criminal record check, two references, interview, and completion of training (up to 32 hrs, length depends on volunteer position)

Client support (direct) services involve facilitating support groups, supporting guests and families at the Rotary Hospice House, and supporting clients in the community. Hospice volunteers listen without judging or giving advice, and respect personal beliefs and confidentiality.

Volunteer tasks for in-house volunteers include visiting with guests and their families and assisting the staff with light household duties, cooking, and guest care.

Supporting clients in the community involves visiting clients and their families at homes, hospitals, or long term care facilities. These volunteers also offer practical help, such as time out for the caregivers and companionship for clients.

Grief support volunteers provide information and support to hospice families during the first year of grief.

Community Grief support – volunteers, offer a listening ear and referrals to other community supports on an as-needed basis.

Support groups typically run once a week for a predetermined length of time. The adult group runs for ten weeks, and the children’s groups run for 13 weeks. We ask that Facilitators commit for the entire length of the group.

Indirect volunteering is ideal for people who would like to volunteer at Hospice and cannot do direct support. We ask that people who have lost someone in the last year participate in indirect volunteering. It is our observation that when we are grieving, self-care is essential. Giving our emotional support to someone else at this time can be overwhelming.
