I love this Quote. It tells me that grief is not to be diminished or ignored. It gives us permission to do the necessary work that is involved in grieving a loss. I love that he says that grief is a necessity. For some of us, this can be hard to hear, however; understanding that grieving is a necessity helps us to accept the reality of the loss.

This quote not only helps us to accept our reality, it offers a path through. It tells us that grief is natural. That the cure for grief is to grieve. It opens up a space to acknowledge that we are grieving and that it is not only okay – it is important and that the act of grieving will help us. This is the cure – this is the way through.

It takes courage to grieve. It takes courage to turn towards our pain. To suggest that grieving is a weakness is laughable. Grieving is one of the most difficult experiences a human can experience. To turn towards it – well, this is a sign of bravery. We can be affected emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Each of these areas of our being need caring and tenderness.

So, it is a natural occurrence when we lose someone we love, it is a courageous act of self care and it is the cure. Give yourself permission. Reach out for help if you need to. Allow yourself to feel what you need to feel.

Be gentle,
